HURRICANE FACTS
Only 5 Category 5 hurricanes have ever made landfall in the US as a Category 5 Hurricane. They are: on 02 September 1935 an Un-named but referred to as the "The Great Labor Day Hurricane" hit the Florida Keys (185mph winds), On 18 August 1969 Hurricane Camille came on shore at Pass Christian, Mississippi and 24 August 1992 (175mph winds): Hurricane Michael of 10 October 2018, passing near Mexico Beach and Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida (160 mph): Hurricane Andrew passed directly through the city of Homestead, Florida (165mph winds): Hurricane Andrew of 24 August 1992 passing directly through the city of Homestead in now, Miami-Dade (previously was just Dade County) County (165mph winds) . Hurricane Katrina was a Category 3 when it made landfall near Buras-Triumph, Louisiana. It is recorded as the most costliest (along with Hurricane Harvey) Atlantic tropical cyclone on record both of which are estimated to have caused $125 Billon in damage. Katrina is also the 3rd most deadliest in US history (1500+ deaths reported) behind the Great Galveston Hurricane (08 Sept. 1900, Cat 4 - with an estimated 8000-12000 deaths) and the Okeechobee Hurricane (17 Sept. 1928, Cat 4, with an estimated 2500-3000 deaths). Hurricane Sandy (aka Superstorm Sandy) never made landfall within the United States as a hurricane but as a very deep and widespread Post Tropical Storm.)
